Course Overview From Reading to Writing (G5–6) is a bridge program designed for students who can read grade-level texts but struggle to write clearly and confidently. Many students at this stage say, “I don’t know what to write.” The real issue is often not writing technique, but insufficient understanding and use of reading content. This program helps students learn how to: • Read with clear understanding • Identify ideas worth writing about • Turn reading comprehension into structured paragraph writing It focuses on building a strong connection between what students read and what they write, preparing them for the increased academic demands of Grades 7–8. Learning Objectives • Understand reading texts more accurately and confidently • Identify main ideas and key details • Use reading content to support their writing • Write clear, organized paragraphs • Complete common Grade 5–6 reading-based writing tasks • Build a solid foundation for upper-grade reading and writing Course Structure (24 Hours) Module 1|Reading for Meaning: Understanding Before Writing (4h) Develop clear reading comprehension by identifying main ideas, key details, story elements, and explaining understanding orally. Module 2|From Reading to Language: Vocabulary & Sentences (4h) Build usable vocabulary and sentence structure by modeling language from reading texts and forming complete, clear sentences. Module 3|Paragraph Writing Basics from Reading (5h) Learn how to write a complete paragraph using ideas and details from reading, with clear topic sentences and logical support. Module 4|Simple Reading Responses & Explanation Writing (5h) Practice common Grade 5–6 response tasks (what / why / explain), moving from copying text to writing in students’ own words. Module 5|Integrated Practice & Writing Confidence Building (6h) Apply skills through repeated reading-and-writing practice, revision, feedback, and short project-style tasks. Learning Outcomes • Understand reading texts more clearly • Write with stronger structure and content • Feel more confident responding to reading tasks • Show improvement in school writing assignments • Be better prepared for Grade 7–8 reading and writing Who This Program Is For • Grade 5–6 students who read adequately but write weakly • Students whose writing is short, repetitive, or unclear • ESL or multilingual learners • Families preparing for the transition to upper-grade academics
